Toyota Proace Range - Setting a new standard

Toyota is widening its customer preference and opening up a brand new business opportunity with its all-new collection of Proace Vehicles. There is an option of two types, three body sizes, and two wheelbase lengths available, along with various body types that carry Proace Van to all parts of the medium-duty van (MDV) category for the first time.

The line-up contains the first Proace Van Compact to establish a new proposal on the market by offering medium-sized van loading capability within the footprint of a compact van (CDV). A combi edition with up to nine seats and a platform cab ready for conversion will also be available.

The Toyota Proace is available with three trim levels: Active, Icon, and Design.

Toyota Proace Active Grade

Fleet-focused Active models feature only basics; standard 16-inch steel wheels, twin side loading doors, cruise control, hill-start assistance, remote central locking, electrical glass, driver's armrest, and DAB radio with USB and Bluetooth connectivity.

Toyota proace Icon Grade

Coming to the mid-spec Icon, users also get rear parking controls, reinforced soundproofing, air conditioning, full-wheel covers, a 'Smart Freight' load-through feature (see more in Weights and Dimensions), height and lumbar adjustment on the driver's seat, and a 12v socket on the back.

Toyota Proace design

Grade Flagship Design models are decorated with 17-inch aluminium wheels, intelligent cruise control, head-up monitor, front fog lights, body-coloured bumpers, mirrors and handles, front traffic sensors, chrome sidebars, sliding and heating door mirrors and 7-inch voice recognition, satellite navigation, and WiFi monitor.

Toyota Proace Smart cargo

Smart Cargo, common in the Icon and Design classes, consists of an opening gate in the bulkhead and a folding bench. This load-bearing facility is much larger and more practical than any other on the market, allowing an additional 0.5 cubic meters and a load length of 1,160 mm.

There are three nominal gross vehicle weights of 2,7, 2,9, and 3,1 tonnes, leading to payloads of between 975 kg and 1,450 kg and towing capacities of up to 2,5 tons. Twin side loading doors are offered as standard, although the vehicle lacks floor safety.

The engine and driveline

Customers have the option of either 1.5-liter or 2.0-liter diesel with supply voltages of 100PS/270Nm and 120PS/300Nm (1.5 Diesel) and 120PS/340Nm, 150PS/370Nm and 180PS/400Nm (2.0 Diesel). Both engines are paired to the 6-speed manual, excluding the 2.0 diesel 180 top-of-the-range, coupled to the 8-speed automatic. An 8-speed auto is also an option for the 2.0 diesel 120.

The engines are the most fuel-efficient in the industry, reaching a combined cycle of up to 60.1mpg (NEDC evaluation procedure) and a WLTP evaluation of between 40.9 and 47.0mpg.

Weights and dimensions

The Toyota Proace is available with an option of three, not two, load lengths, unlike the majority of vans in this category, although there is only one roof height. Despite this, all measurements are significantly narrower, from length to door height, than the typical medium van.

The Compact has an overall load length of 2,162 mm, the medium is 2,512 mm, and the size is 2,862 mm, which is unique to this market. The Proace has load volumes of 4.6, 5.3, and 6.1 cubic meters, provided the average load width of 1,636 mm (1,258 mm between the wheel arches) and a roof height of 1,397 mm.

Design and Packaging

The fantastic new frontal design of the Toyota Proace Van clearly distinguishes it as a contemporary Toyota family member. It will be available in three body sizes: Lightweight, Medium, and Long.

The Compact would be the smallest model in the MDV range – thinner and narrower than other CDV models – 4.6 m long and a 2.9 m wheelbase. The 11.3-meter spinning circle makes it extremely manoeuvrable for use in built-up environments. The Toyota Proace Van Compact is available as a panel van with three front seats and a cargo bay with a length of 2.1 m and a width of 1.6 m, giving a load capacity of 4.6m3.

The new Smart Cargo system, which integrates the front bulkhead's opening with the lower front passenger seat base mechanism, raises the maximum load length from 2.5 to 3.7 m and the average load capacity to the highest in the 5.1m3 range. Accessible in all Proace Van models (optional or typical depending on the grade) provides extra storage space in the cabin.

The Medium variant is 4.9 m long and has a wheelbase of 3.2 m. As the Smart Freight system is mounted, the total load length is 3.7 m, and the load capacity is raised from 5.3 m to 5.8m3. The medium-length Proace Van is available as the screen, crew cab, combi, and platform cab models. The Long edition of Toyota Proace has the same 3.2 m wheelbases, but with an increased rear overhang that stretches the maximum length of the vehicle to 5.3 m. The panel, crew cab, and nine-set Combi models are available. The freight area is 2.8 m long and 1.6 m wide, giving a load volume of 6.1m3. Here the Smart Cargo system has a maximum load length of up to 4 m, raising the load capacity to 6.6m3.

Proace Van has left and right sliding doors and side-hinged rear double doors that expand up to 180 degrees with each vehicle length. The width and height of the car are regular at 2.2 m and 1.9 m, respectively. Total weight is up to 1,400 kg, and the towing capacity of the braked trailer is up to 2,500 kg.

On the Medium and Long models, the door opening is wide enough to load Euro pallets. The cabin is robust, practical, and comfortable, built to suit commercial and private owners' needs. The dashboard features simple instrumentation and analogue dials with ergonomic switchgear. The driving seat has outstanding visibility and is car-like in its seat, with a short-wheel drive lever positioned next to the steering wheel.

Price and warranty The Toyota Proace ranges from £ 20,960 (1,5 100PS Compact Active) to £30,060 (2,0 180PS Medium Design) plus VAT. Due to the Toyota tag, residual prices are higher than their Peugeot and Citroen-badged siblings and are protected by a more extended 5-year, 100,000-mile warranty, while servicing periods are set at two years or 25.000 miles.
